P&C Achievements

The Botany P&C have supported the school in many ways over the years. This summary was based on P&C minutes.

2022

  • An interactive classroom screen ($4,500) was installed.
  • 400 new books were purchased for the library ($5,000).
  • Some new lunchtime sports equipment was bought ($2,000).
  • Funds were provided for Cyber Safety workshops for the entire school and parents ($3,500). This meant that these sessions were free to participate in.
  • Money was also contributed towards tree planting ($450), World Teachers Day ($200), Matilda With a Twist ($500) and the Year 6 Farewell ($500). 

2020 – 2021

Not much going on, for obvious reasons.

2019

“Spirit Whale Ascending”
by Garry Purchase
  • $1,250 was used to pay the deposit for an Aboriginal mural by Garry Purchase that was painted on the side of the Year 1 rooms. $600 was donated to pay the deposit on a totem workshop to be undertaken by the Art Club during NAIDOC week.
  • $5,000 was disbursed towards the school’s goal of purchasing 500 new library books this year.
  • $300 was given to the Working Bee coordinators for purchase of a eucalypt and a grevillea, plus ground covers and gardening tools. Bayside council also donated 100 plants that were planted around the school grounds.
  • $3,545 of musical instruments were purchased for the school: a keyboard, drum set, various percussion instruments and chimes.
  • $1,500 was obtained through Bayside Council’s Historical Community Grant for framing of historic Botany PS photos and memorabilia.
Terracycle pen recycling bin
  • Organised Terracycle sourced pen recycling scheme for the school.
  • $258 donated to pay for Year 6 farewell decorations and sundries.
  • $5,000 provided to the school to buy and retain costumes for the Dance/ Creative Arts program.

2018

  • $10,000 was provided to the school for the purchase of STEM resources, including Cubetto Robot class kits with story books, Makey Makey Deluxe class electronics kits, Circuit Scribe class electronics kits, Sphero Power Pack robot kits and Tetrix Prime Robotics kits.
  • $5,000 was donated for the purchase of new home readers.
  • Raised $1,300 through a ‘Fiver For A Farmer‘ mufti day. Proceeds were gifted to two drought relief charities; Buy A Bale and Outback Angels.
  • Donated $750 towards Working Bee supplies, plants and to replace a dead tree.
  • A P&C representative provided input on a Merit Selection Panel formed to hire two new school staff.
  • $10,000 was disbursed towards the cost of rubber soft-fall for the playground equipment.
  • $273 given to pay for Year 6 farewell decorations and sundries.

2017

  • $4,000 was provided to the school to be spent on rich visual texts about various topics, e.g. sustainability, links to Asia, Aboriginal culture, etc. from a list of recommended books that were linked to the syllabus.
  • Funds were provided for the junior Soccer shirts and Netball/ Softball/ T-ball shirts as well as Netball bibs.
  • Brought in Primary Ethics classes starting with 2 classes in Stages 1 and 2 this year.
  • $1,000 was gifted to the school for general use.
  • Started Botany Bolt Fun Run in order to further promote a healthy lifestyle for our community, as well as fundraise for the school.
  • Provided $5,000 to pay for part of the library administration office refurbishment.
  • Bought 2 collapsible gazebos with school branding for use by the school and P&C at events such as the Cross Country, Athletics Carnival, etc.
  • A P&C representative provided input on a Merit Selection Panel formed to hire new school staff.

2016

  • $10,000 was earmarked for additional TEN (Targeted Early Numeracy, K-2) and TOWN (Taking Off With Numeracy, 3-6) resources for use in Maths lessons.
  • Secured a $250 grant to replace the school basketball hoops, backboards and nets.
  • Another $10,000 was gifted to the school to buy new guided readers.

2015

Water tank and pump
  • Started a Library Project donation drive, with $2,000 worth of books being purchased as a result.
  • Secured a $5,000 NRMA grant that was spent on 4 mature Tuckeroo trees near the Kindy classes and additional plants and mulch for the airport garden, pea straw for the vegetable garden, new plants for the Heritage garden and mature trees for the Bay Street fence line.
  • Obtained $1,100 from Coles to construct a garden workbench area.
  • Was successful in an Environment and Sustainability Grant of $2,500 which was used on rain water tanks and pumps.

2014

  • School banking with the Commonwealth Bank was started with 49 students signing up initially.
  • Turf grant was obtained to have the turf on the school field replaced. The school community laid the turf themselves at a working bee.
  • $300 was gifted to complete the vegetable gardens. The school community provided their labour and time to construct and fill them.
  • $10,000 was disbursed towards AV technology, namely electronic whiteboard projectors and additional iPads.
  • $7,500 was donated to the school for general use.

2013

  • $10,000 was donated to the school for general use.
  • Two P&C members advised on the canteen tender selection panel and the P&C was also consulted on menu options.
  • Tree donation obtained from Botany Council.
  • $10,000 gifted to the school for extra iPads, assistance for canteen/ electrical upgrade, library resources and visual texts, as well as trophies for end-of-year awards.
  • $3,500 was donated to the school for an iPad docking station and trolley for the library.

2012

Shade cloth in the quad
  • Money allocated for repair of the quadrangle shade cloth.
  • $8,000 donated for an update of the school library resources, including the purchase of books on the Premier’s Reading Challenge list.
  • $500 was used to purchase books through the Book Fair for the school library.
  • $1,200 gifted to be used for Presentation Day trophies.
  • Bought signature bears for year 6 students who are leaving.

2011

  • Aussie Farmers Direct loyalty shopping donations brought in for Botany parents. 2% of takings went to the school.
  • Started up a Second-hand Clothing Pool as a service for parents.
  • Two P&C representatives advised on the Merit Selection Panel to hire new school staff.
  • Nude Food Day suggested and implemented, to raise awareness about unnecessary packaging in school lunches.
  • Brought in the Healthy Lifestyle Challenge as a way for the school to fundraise and promote healthy living to the students. Raised $5,400 that went towards purchasing guided reading resources.
  • $7,500 was gifted to purchase a projector for the hall.
  • Successfully lobbied the Local Traffic Committee to have a pedestrian crossing added to Bay Street, so children could more safely cross when walking to school.
  • $1,000 donated for Presentation Day trophies.

2010

Historic Pathway
  • $10,000 donated to the school for general use.
  • Historic pathway planned and laid. $483.02 was gifted for laying costs and garden logs.
  • Provided funds for laying artificial grass on the basketball court and cricket pitch.
  • Provided funds for some Interactive Whiteboards to be installed in classrooms.
  • Tree donation obtained from Botany Council.
  • $1,000 was used to buy end of year trophies.
  • $10,000 was gifted to purchase Interactive Whiteboards for the class rooms that didn’t have them.

The P&C were unable to obtain records before these years.
